Colca Canyon

The White City

It is called the “White City” because of its white buildings made with ashlar (petrified volcanic ash) in the nineteenth century.  Arequipa was an important stronghold in the struggle for the independence of Peru and is famous for its extraordinary architecture, soaring volcanoes and its great cuisine. One of the main attractions in Arequipa is the Colca Valley, 32 towns in a stunning natural environment that still proudly preserve their traditions and the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons on earth, with a depth of 3,400 meters.
